Africa4Haiti Press Briefing Statement:
Introduction
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen of the press. Thank you for joining us today for this important briefing. We are here to provide you with an update on the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Kenya and the Africa4Haiti Initiative (A4H).
I am Mr. Edward Muito, the Chief Information Officer of A4H.
1. Why Haiti and Haiti’s Historical Significance and Relevance to the Africa Liberation Movement
Haiti holds a special place in the history of the African diaspora. As the first black republic to gain independence in 1804, Haiti’s successful revolt against colonial powers served as a beacon of hope and inspiration for liberation movements across Africa and the world.
The historical and cultural ties between Haiti and Africa are profound, and it is our duty to honour and strengthen these connections. Haiti’s resilience and courage continue to inspire us, and it is this shared legacy that drives our commitment to supporting Haiti in its current challenges.
2. Africa4Haiti Initiative: Aims and Objectives
The Africa4Haiti Initiative is a Pan-African civil society movement dedicated to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by Haiti. Our aims and objectives include:
– Providing humanitarian aid and development support.
– Promoting cultural exchange and understanding between Africa and Haiti.
– Supporting Haiti’s recovery efforts through sustainable development projects.
We are proud to announce that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and A4H are jointly hosting the Harmony4Haiti Concert and Cultural Festival on the 24th of August 2024. This event is more than just a celebration; it is a demonstration of our solidarity with the people of Haiti and our commitment to their progress and prosperity.
