INITIATIVE LAUNCHES PAN-AFRICAN CULTURAL DIPLOMACY EVENT TO SUPPORT HAITI
Nairobi, Kenya – September 08, 2024
The Africa4Haiti Initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and an Interministerial Committee, hosted a momentous cultural event at Uhuru Gardens, aimed at honoring Haiti and raising awareness about the nation’s ongoing humanitarian needs. This unprecedented gathering celebrated cultural diplomacy as a pathway to global solidarity and resilience for the people of Haiti, showcasing the depth of African and Caribbean unity.
A Grand Celebration of Pan-African and Caribbean Artistry
The event was brought to life by an extraordinary lineup of Pan-African and Caribbean artists. Performers included Shyro Ogolla, Trio Mio, Strong Yawezekana, Aafisa, alongside cultural dancers from Burundi and awe-inspiring acrobats. Caribbean stars like Empress Aje from Trinidad and Tobago and the Queen of Cameroon also lit up the stage, creating a dazzling showcase of culture. Renowned artist Nicolae Voiculet added a European flair, and the crowd was captivated by performances from Jabali Africa, Wazenga Band, and many more.
The vibrant Master of Ceremonies, Amina Rabar, engaged the audience with her dynamic and intelligent hosting, ensuring the atmosphere remained lively and connected throughout.
A Strong Diplomatic Presence and Key Remarks
The event attracted over 50 diplomatic missions, including participants from Kenyan universities, the Kenya Youth Organization, and the Green Army. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi delivered a powerful keynote address, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to supporting Haiti through cultural diplomacy. He noted, “We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Their resilience in the face of adversity is a lesson to all of us, and we will use the strength of our culture, our people, and our diplomacy to ensure Haiti rises again.” Mudavadi called on the international community to bolster humanitarian efforts, affirming Kenya’s leadership role in supporting global solidarity.
Additionally, Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offered remarks highlighting the vital role that cultural diplomacy can play in building global relationships. Dr. Sing’Oei stressed the importance of people-to-people diplomacy and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to fostering meaningful connections between African and Caribbean communities.
Panel Discussion on Diplomacy and Security

Edward Muito’s Vision for Haiti and Appeal for Support
During his remarks, Edward Muito outlined Africa4Haiti’s ongoing plans, announcing that he intends to travel to Haiti in October-November to strengthen relations between Kenya and Haiti, motivate Kenyan police officers stationed there, and build a foundation for long-term people-to-people relations. He also made a passionate appeal to the Government of Kenya and the international community , calling for enhanced support for Africa4Haiti’s efforts. “This is the first-ever Pan-African Civil Society initiative for humanitarian support to Haiti. We must rally together, not just as governments but as people, to uplift the resilient Haitian nation.”
Edward also announced the upcoming Pan-African play titled “Arise” , which symbolizes the struggle and determination of the Haitian people. The play is part of a broader cultural initiative to inspire global action and humanitarian support for Haiti.
A Message of Solidarity and Action
The event’s core message, ” Saqpasee na buleh ” (“What’s happening, everything is cool” in Haitian Creole), resonated with the audience, symbolizing the unbreakable spirit of the Haitian people. Youth President Jennifer Waruingi delivered an impassioned speech, calling on youth across Africa and the Caribbean to take action and unite for global causes. Her speech was a powerful reminder of the critical role young people play in shaping a more just and resilient world.
The Ambassador of Barbados provided insightful remarks, reflecting on the shared history of struggle and resilience between Haiti and the Caribbean. The ambassador commended the efforts of Africa4Haiti and reiterated the Caribbean community’s comrnitment to supporting Haiti.

Africa4Haiti’s event sent a clear signal to the world that cultural diplomacy is not just a celebration of heritage but also a powerful mechanism for humanitarian aid and global cooperation.
